CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65
What is Proposition 65?
Proposition 65 is a California law that requires any company operating in California, selling products in California or manufacturing products that may be sold or brought into California must provide warnings about exposure to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive harm. Proposition 65 mandates warnings be posted, published or labeled wherever listed chemicals are known to be present.
What types of chemicals are on the Proposition 65 list?
There are over 900 chemicals on the Proposition 65 list which is updated yearly. This law is administered by California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), a part of the California Environmental Protection Agency. The ever growing list contains a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that include additives or ingredients in common household products, everyday consumer goods, electronics, food, drugs, dyes, pesticides, solvents, etc. Listed chemicals may also be used in assembly, manufacturing and construction, or they may be byproducts of chemical processes, for example, motor vehicle exhaust.
What is the purpose of the warning on our website and product packaging?
California’s Proposition 65’s warning standards are among the most stringent in the world. Proposition 65 is not a product safety law, but rather a “right-to-know” law. The warning below is part of our ongoing effort to comply with the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (known as "Proposition 65").
